With voting day just over a month away, Harjit Jaswal, a local real estate broker, has won the nomination for Brampton Centre, one of the city’s newly formed ridings.
The win hasn’t come without scrutiny though. Since appointing almost a dozen candidates in ridings across the province, PC Leader Doug Ford has roused further questions about the party’s nomination process.
Jaswal went up against Sudeep Verma, a telecommunications business operator for the nomination. But one candidate noticeably missing was Nick Gahunia.

Questions about the reason for the disqualification have remained unanswered by PC party President Jag Badwal, despite calls and messages. Gahunia has not publicly commented on the disqualification either.
The Brampton Centre riding was the subject of controversy last month after outspoken Toronto city councillor Giorgio Mammoliti announced he would be running for the PC nomination in the riding at the encouragement of Ford, despite having no known connections to Brampton.
Within a week Mammoliti withdrew himself from the nomination race stating his Toronto constituents were the driving force behind the decision.
Jaswal, despite the drama, appears enthusiastic, adding that now the real fight begins.
Ford congratulated Jaswal on Twitter for winning the nomination, adding that “Together, we will defeat Kathleen Wynne and bring change for the people!”
