The MTV Video Music Awards brought out stars like Kendrick Lamar, Shawn Mendes, Fifth Harmony and more.

Canadians have slowly but surely been creeping to the top of charts, winning awards, performing in star-studded music lineups, and Brampton girl Alessia Cara has been in the thick of it all.

Cara was up for four MTV Video Music Awards, three for her hit, ‘Scars to your Beautiful’ and one for her collab with Zedd, ‘Stay’.

Her most notable nomination was for Music Video of the Year, where she was in contention alongside Bruno Mars, Kendrick Lamar and Rihanna — Kendrick Lamar took home the win for his single ‘Humble’.

But Cara was able to shine in other categories. She took her first MTV Video Music Award for Best Electronic Dance Video thanks to ‘Stay’ and her self-love hit ‘Scars to your Beautiful’ won an award for the best Fight Against the System Video.

That isn’t all. Cara also two to the stage twice for two epic performances. Check them out here.
