Brampton-Raised Artist Featured on New Calvin Harris Album

‘y7Calvin Harris dropped his new Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 Friday. Like previous Harris albums, it features a wide variety of artists, including Jessie Reyez, a singer hailing from Brampton.

Reyez is featured on the song “Hard to Love”. She does vocals and also co-wrote the track. She also collaborated on another of the album’s songs, “Faking It”, which features Kehlani and Lil Yachty.

The Colombian singer-songwriter grew up in Brampton, North York and even moved to Miami at one point before coming back to Toronto where her music career took off.

2017 has been a breakout year for Reyez. She kicked off the year with the release of a haunting video for her track “Shutter Island”, and followed up with the release of her debut EP Kiddo this past April.

Reyez has plenty of other Brampton connections too. For example, she was featured on local rapper Derin Falana’s 2015 mixtape titled 905.

Reyez recently opened up the MMVAs with an emotional red carpet acoustic set of “Figures”, one of the singles from Kiddo, which you can watch here.
