If you’ve never tried a Malaysian coffee bun, you’re in for a treat. As part of its Canadian expansion, popular international chain PappaRoti is now open at Bramalea City Centre.
The location in Brampton is the chain’s second, the first resides in Vancouver, and another is slated to open in Quebec.
PappaRoti has over 400 locations around the world, including cafés in India, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam and China. International travellers will likely recognize the brand.
The café’s signature is the coffee bun, or roti bun. It isn’t the type of roti you’re probably used to. Its crispy on the outside, with a caramel-coffee exterior and a soft interior lightly coated with salted butter.
PappaRoti promises freshness, so new buns are baked and served every 20 minutes.
Buns can be enjoyed in a bunch of different ways. They’re tasty all on their own but toppings are available too, including Nutella, maple drizzle, strawberries, bananas and more.
The PappaRoti bun is best enjoyed with Malysian karak tea, which is made from black tea leaves ground with cardamom, ginger and served with condensed milk. It’s flavour profile is similar in some ways to Chai tea. They recently added vanilla and hazelnut options as well.
Aside from the main attraction, the coffee bun, PappaRoti’s repertoire also includes soups, sandwiches, salads, smoothies and other desserts.
