Canadian indie rockers Mother Mother are headlining Brampton’s annual New Year’s Eve party in downtown Brampton.
Mother Mother will play songs off their latest album, The Drugs, as well as other hits.
The opening act will be Alx Veliz, probably best known for his hit “Dancing Kizomba” and “U+Me.”
The city-run party has two zones. Garden Square hosts the live concert section and is where the main fireworks display blasts off at midnight.
There will also be an Instagram booth this year.
Scott Fox and DJ Drew from z103.5 will be in Garden Square all night hosting the fun.
Parents can take their kids to City Hall. The main atrium will have kids’ activities and the kids’ dance party will happen in the new Conservatory space at City Hall, just off Queen Street. There will also be a smaller fireworks display at 9 p.m.
Three streets are planned to be closed for the festivities.
- Queen Street: George Street to Chapel Street, 6 p.m. to 1 a.m.
- Main Street: Nelson Street to Wellington Street, 6 p.m. to 1 a.m.
- Wellington Street: George Street to Main Street, 5 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Last year, the closure turned most of downtown into a giant street party, and many downtown eateries and businesses were open late.
Brampton Transit will run free transit service after 7 p.m., with extended service on most core routes.
Parking will be free at all downtown city-owned garages.
