The much-anticipated Chinguacousy Park skating trail officially opens on December 15 at 10 a.m.
Skaters have been waiting patiently to hit the trails. In order to lay the ice, temperatures needed to be below freezing for at least a week before the city could create and sustain a surface safe enough for skating.
The trail will be open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Skate rentals and concessions will be available Thursdays and Fridays from 6 – 9 p.m. and all day on the weekends.
The new skating trail is designed in canal shape, with natural bends to allow skaters of all abilities to practise their skills, while maintaining a comfortable flow. Seating and warming areas will be available along the trail as well.
In addition to the skate trail, the new facility is also equipped to support summer activities. In warm months the canal will be turned into a shallow reflective pool to allow for splish-splashing fun. The canal can also be drained to become a large plaza for outdoor events and other gatherings.
