The urgent care centre (UCC) at the newly built Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health & Wellness officially opens its doors as of Wednesday February 8.
The centre is expected to ease some of the burden Brampton Civic has been shouldering since Peel Memorial shut down back in 2007.
The UCC can treat patients with non life-threatening conditions like fractures, stitches, lacerations and the flu.
It will also offer day patient services like cataract surgeries, orthoscopy, endoscopy and minor gynecological procedures. Emergencies and ambulances will continue to go to Brampton Civic.
The new centre will be open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week, even on holidays.
This is the first phase of Peel Memorial’s revamp. Phase two will likely include overnight beds and maybe even an emergency room. Currently there is no funding committee from the provincial government towards the second phase.
