Traffic was rerouted and a number of businesses went into lockdown Monday morning after a suspicious package was discovered near the downtown Brampton bus terminal
The package was reported just before 11 a.m. in the area of Nelson St and George St, shutting down all traffic, both car and pedestrian, while police investigated.

Peel Police’s Explosive Disposal Unit brought in its robot which eventually determined the package, which was eventually destroyed, was not a threat to public safety.
While the investigation took place, businesses directly on Nelson Street were under lockdown. Nelson Street from George Street to Main Street was also closed for almost two hours to all traffic.
This is the second suspicious package that has been discovered and subsequently destroyed in the area in the last year. A package was discovered last September just a few metres away at the corner of Theatre Lane and Main Street. The bomb squad was called in to take care of that one too.
