Every week, Bramptonist rounds up the interesting items on upcoming city council and committee meetings, so you don’t have to page through huge (and, if we’re being honest, tedious) PDFs and to make it easier for you to be a well-informed resident.
All meetings are open to the public (aside from items which are specifically marked as closed). Due to council chamber renovations, meetings are mostly occurring in Boardroom WT-2C/D in the West Tower.
A side note: since the new council elected on October 22 won’t be officially inaugurated until December 3, the council elected for the 2014-2018 term will be presiding over the meetings for the next two weeks.
Committee of Adjustment
November 13, 9:00 a.m.
Boardroom WT-2C/D, West Tower
CoA is a committee comprising staff members and residents, not elected officials. This committee handles minor zoning adjustments for new developments, as well as new businesses in existing developments. Minor adjustments may include: adjusting the zoning to allows for compatible but not allowed uses, reducing parking minimums, and minor height and setback adjustments.
Major Proposed Adjustments
The Smart Centre at the southwest corner of Bovaird and Airport is proposing to include a self-storage warehouse, which isn’t allowed in the commercial-retail zoning.
A developer of three houses from 9768-9774 Creditview Road is proposing to include 1.2m front yard fencing, which is beyond the maximum height for front yards, and also the area doesn’t permit that kind of fencing.
A group who owns a house at 11043 Heritage Road is proposing to use the detached garage as a place of worship and having rear yard parking.

Brampton School Traffic Safety Committee
November 15, 9:30 a.m.
Boardroom WT-2C/D, West Tower
The BSTS Committee is a citizen advisory committee comprised of one councilor, two school trustees (public and Catholic) and residents. This committee does site surveys with the head crossing guard to find problems and solutions to traffic and safety issues around Brampton area schools, as requested by school officials and parents.
Site Inspection Requests
An employee for the Dufferin Peel Catholic District School Board has requested a review for students crossing both ways at Airport Road and Humberwest Parkway due to the high volume nature of both roads (page 18).
A school administrator for Mount Pleasant Public School is requiring that the traffic lights on Commuter Drive have crossing guards (page 19).
A resident near St. Jean Marie Vianney School is requesting a crossing guard so students can cross Williams Parkway safely (page 20).
The principal of Lester B. Pearson school on Howden Boulevard is asking for the committee to review the school’s current safety measures, as they find that parents are parking in the kiss and ride despite being told not to by school staff. The principal is also concerned about parking on Howden Boulevard, which is dangerous due to the curve and hill (page 21).
A resident near St. Lucy School is requesting a crossing guard at Kanata and Beavervalley Drive (page 22).
Site Inspection Reviews
St. Andre Bessette Catholic School (page 23) – The crossing guard request is not warranted and no changes need to be made.
Beryl Ford Public School (page 25) – The crossing guard request for Ironshield Drive and Franktown Road is not warranted and should use the crossings at Natronia Trail and Education Trail (the school administrator wanted it so that pedestrians didn’t have to double back to get to a crossing as students). Other recommendations include no U-turns and parking restrictions on Ironside Drive.
Worthington Public School and Guardian Angels Separate School (page 29) – The crossing guard request for Brisdale Avenue and Fairhill Drive is not warranted.
Tribune Public School (page 33) – The crossing guard request for Robert Parkinson Drive and Buick Boulevard is not warranted.
St. Anthony Catholic School (page 48) – Crossing guard request for the crossing to the church parking lot is not warranted and that the school and church should eliminate the pedestrian access from the church lot and instead encourage everyone to take the long way around via North Park and Mackay to get to the school.
Dolson Public School (page 54) – Recommendations include adding pedestrian markings at the intersection of Remembrance Road and Robert Parkinson Drive, parking restrictions on Remembrance Road between the kiss and ride exit to Davisdale Drive, and U-turn restrictions on Remembrance Road.
