Serving the community for over 35 years, the Farmers Market will need to relocate from its current location on Main Street in downtown Brampton. The need to relocate results from the Region of Peel conducting a significant construction project that will replace the existing water main.
.
A survey was completed by previous vendors, with the assistance of the Downtown Business Improvement Association (BIA), to determine what location they would prefer as an alternative site. The results were overwhelming, with most respondents selecting the Gage Park, Wellington Street West, and Ken Whillans Square option.
According to Suzy Godefroy, Executive Director, Downtown Brampton BIA “The (BIA) supports the City of Brampton’s recommendation at committee of council yesterday with regards to keeping the 2021 Farmers’ Market as close as physically possible to our downtown main streets being Main St. North & South & Queen Street East & West. The BIA understands, through our downtown Councillors and City of Brampton staff, that the regional watermain replacement work must be started this summer due to the severe deterioration of the existing water main infrastructure in the downtown.”

Approved by City Council, the new site will offer vendors and their customers immediate access to free parking (at City Hall), on-site washrooms, hydro, and convenient public transit access. With added value, the new location will offer visitors the opportunity to enjoy their goods at Gage Park and possibly be entertained by local performers at the gazebo. The site is also AODA (Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act) compliant with accessible parking and paved paths.
It is anticipated the Farmers Market will operate every Saturday, from 8 am to 1 pm, from June 19 to October 23, 2021. Like last season, the Farmers Market will implement public health measures in response to the global pandemic.
Interested vendors can participate in the 2021 season by applying to the City.
