The City of Brampton will be prohibiting U-turns at three locations where many residents and city officials have seen a record number of unsafe U-turns done by drivers.
The firsts section is the stretch of Notre Dame Avenue between Kennedy Road and Richvale Drive South.
“Motorists were reported to be performing unsafe and disruptive U-turn manoeuvres while dropping off or picking up students,” says Kevin Minaker, Manager of Traffic and Parking Operations. “These U-turns cause congestion difficulties and unsafe conditions for through traffic.”
The other two areas in the city are the intersection of Heart Lake Road and Countryside Drive, and the intersection of Queen Street and Hansen Road.
Minaker also indicated that signage would be added to these areas to prohibit drivers from performing U-turns. Peel Police state that motorists who disobey a traffic sign will be issued a $110 fine and two demerit points. If the violation happens in a community safety zone or school area, the fine goes up to $180 and two demerit points.
