Brampton is about to lose one of its two movie theatres. Back in March, Cineplex announced it would be converting Orion Gate from a theatre into a Playdium and we now have a closing date for the theatre.
More than a few people are torn up about the loss of the theatre, given how busy SilverCity is, but it’s happening. Orion Gate will officially close on September 30, and until then the theatre will continue to show the latest releases.
Orion Gate is expected to open back up in mid-2019 as a fully functional Playdium, sans movie theatre.
In contrast to Mississauga’s Playdium location, Brampton’s will focus on indoor play options. It won’t have a go-kart track, but it will have laser tag, bowling, ropes courses, and more.
It’s also expected to have better food options. Cineplex says it’s working on a menu of chef-inspired eats that cater to teens and young adults that will be made-to-order with fresh ingredients.
As of now, there are no plans to bring a second movie theatre back to Brampton, Cineplex says its Courtney Park location is already well-used by Bramptonians living on the south end of the city and they expect this trend will continue once Orion Gate officially closes its doors.
