In response to public demand, the Brampton Soccer Centre will be getting a dome. The facility, located at Dixie Road and Sandalwood Parkway, originally opened in 2007. The new project will create a space for sports groups and events to use all year round. Funding has already been approved by Brampton City Council as part of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan.
New and improved LED lighting will enhance energy efficiency and allow for extended usage hours. The dome will also be an air-supported structure, making it faster and easier to install and remove, in addition to being cost-effective and environmentally sustainable.
The two outdoor fields, one of which will be used as the site of the new dome, are also being converted to artificial turf to extend their seasonal use and reduce rain closures. Other enhancements include a new, semi-permanent gymnasium floor in one of the outdoor fieldhouses, while another indoor fieldhouse will be able to alternate between floor and turf. A pavilion will be added to provide washroom and change room facilities for the outdoor fields.
Once construction is complete, the facility will be renamed the “Brampton Sports Centre” to better reflect its multi-sport usage capabilities.
A Request For Proposal will be released in January 2018 for the design of the sports dome. Construction of the dome is expected to begin in Spring 2019, with an anticipated opening in November 2019.
