20-year-old Bramptonian Candice Bennett has one goal this holiday season, collect as many toys as possible for children in the community in need.
Her journey all started five years ago when Bennet got thinking about ways to give back during the Holiday season. “I suggested to my friends that instead of our annual Secret Santa, why not start a new tradition and buy a gift for those less fortunate during the holiday season. Everyone thought it was a great idea, and I’ve been doing it every year since,” says Bennett.
Since then Bennet has successfully collected countless toys, allowing hundreds of children living in financially difficult situations to experience the magic of Christmas.
“The first year we collected 12 gifts between my friends and I, last year alone we collected 354 gifts, just from friends and family.” Now Candice is opening the event up to the public for the first time in hopes of collecting even more toys and bringing joy to more children. Her goal is to reach over 400 gifts.
Bennett has organized a toy drive for this Saturday December 5, at Chinguacousy Wellness Centre, 995 Peter Robertson Blvd., from 4 – 8 p.m.
Bennett and her team are looking for unwrapped toys and gifts cards for children of any age. Often children 8 and older can be forgotten when people donate to toy drives. They will also be collecting non-perishable food items to go to the Salvation Army along with the donated gifts.
Help Bennett reach her goal and provide a gift for children in the Brampton community in need this holiday season.
