May 31, 2024 – Brampton will host the vibrant Lusofonia Festival from May 31 to June 2 at Chinguacousy Park. This event marks the beginning of Portuguese Heritage Month, celebrating the rich culture and history of the Portuguese community.
The festival not only celebrates Portuguese culture but also acknowledges the significant contributions of the Portuguese-Canadian community in Ontario. With over 300,000 people of Portuguese ancestry in Ontario, and half a million across Canada, the community plays an inspiring role in our society.
On June 1 at 11 AM, join Mayor Patrick Brown and other officials at Ken Whillans Square for the Community Flag Raising. “Every year we celebrate Portuguese Heritage Month with a Flag Raising and events as we recognize the Portuguese community and their contributions to our city,” said Mayor Brown. He invited everyone to attend the ceremony.
Councillor Martin Medeiros, a proud member of the Portuguese-Canadian community, expressed excitement about the festival. “Enjoy performances from local and international artists, family-friendly activities, delicious food, and so much more,” he said. The festival will feature cultural performances, history and poem recitals, street parades, and traditional food, bringing the essence of Portugal to Brampton.
