December 26, 2023 – Come January 1, 2024, the City of Brampton is handing over the reins of towing and storage oversight to the Ministry of Transportation (MTO). The MTO will enforce the Ministry of Transportation Towing and Storage Safety Enforcement Act (TSSEA) across the province, marking a shift from previous municipal control.

No more city regulations mean the City of Brampton will stop managing licenses for tow operators, tow truck drivers, and vehicle storage operators starting January 1, 2024.

Under TSSEA, tow operators, tow truck drivers, and vehicle storage operators need a provincial certificate to operate. Compliance will solely align with provincial rules.

Key Dates for Towing and Storage Operators:

  • July 2023: Apply for a TSSEA certificate online.
  • January 1, 2024: TSSEA takes effect, ending municipal oversight.
  • July 1, 2024: All tow drivers must hold a TSSEA certificate to operate in the province.
