With higher than usual temperatures expected for the rest of September, the City of Brampton is postponing when landlords can start heating residential units.

Landlords will be allowed to start heating rental accommodations as of September 22. Typically, under the city’s Adequate Heat by-law, the commencement period starts September 15, but with the forecast expected to stay above 20 degrees Celsius for the rest of the month, the city has decided to change the start date.

Last year the city made amendments to the Adequate Heat By-law after unseasonably warm temperatures in September and October left renters overheated and uncomfortable in apartments that no longer had air conditioning.

The city amended the bylaw to allow the recommended start date change based on weather conditions.
