Confirmed Measles Case Sparks Investigation in Peel Region

February 15, 2024 – Peel Public Health (PPH) is on high alert after confirming a case of measles in a child who recently traveled internationally.

Measles is extremely contagious, especially for those without immunization or previous exposure. Vulnerable groups include infants, pregnant individuals without immunization, and those with weakened immune systems.

PPH urges travelers to measles-prone areas to ensure they’re immunized. All Ontarians qualify for two free MMR vaccine doses.

While not in Brampton yet, various locations in neighbouring Mississauga have been exposed to measles.

PPH is contacting individuals who may have been exposed, listing specific locations and times:

  • Wow…What A Deal! on February 1, 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
  • Walmart on February 1, 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
  • Trillium Health Partners Mississauga Site on February 3, 2:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m.
  • 400 Dundas Medical on February 5, 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Trillium Health Partners Mississauga Site on February 6-7, 7:00 p.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Measles symptoms, appearing 7-21 days after infection, include high fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a red rash.
