January 5, 2023 – The Queen Street-Highway 7 Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project is a proposed rapid transit line between the cities of Brampton and Vaughan.

The project’s study area covers a 24-kilometre corridor along Queen Street and Highway 7, which would create an essential east-to-west transit spine for the GTHA.

Virtual Open House and Public Information Centre on Transit Options

The Queen Street – Highway 7 Bus Transit Project Team will hold a Virtual Live Meeting for Metrolinx to introduce the project and update on work completed and coming up.

The first public information centre runs from January 23 to February 3, 2023, and the virtual open house on January 26, 2023 from 7 – 8 p.m.

Guests can register online and post question to be answered during the live stream. Attendees can vote on which questions they most want to hear answered by the Metrolinx team.

This is the first round of public engagement where project experts will be able to answer questions from the community.

Queen Street Bus Rapid Transit Project Background

Metrolinx, is leading the project for advancing rapid transit along the Queen Street-Highway 7 corridor with support from the City of Brampton, Peel Region, and York Region.

The Queen Street-Highway 7 Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Initial Business Case (IBC) report signals the opening of the first decision stage, a crucial milestone in this benefits management framework.

Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown is excited about the project, saying “transit is an integral part of a healthy community and economy, and moving forward on foundational work like this will help us support the growth of a diverse, young, dynamic and fast growing city.

Queen Street, a designated rapid transit corridor in the City’s Transportation Master Plan, is the busiest transit corridor in Brampton with more than 28,000 transit customers each weekday.

With population growth of 40-50% is anticipated to over the next 25 years, transportation needs within the corridor will also grow.

When the City and Metrolinx advanced to the next stage of the QSBRT Study in late 2020, area City Councillor Harkirat Singh commented on the value of the project, “with a rapid transit spine along Queen Street we can promote more density in Brampton and the area as a live, work, play destination. Not only does it link some of the city’s key destinations, but the Queen Street BRT will also provide a critical connection in the larger, inter-regional corridor connecting downtown Brampton with the Bramalea City Centre, Vaughan Metropolitan Centre, Richmond Hill Centre, Markham Centre, and beyond.”
