Council Showdown: June 6 – 10, 2016

Every week, Bramptonist will be rounding up the interesting items on upcoming city council and committee meetings, so you don’t have to bore yourselves with tedious PDFs.

All meetings are open to the public (aside from closed items), and are generally held in the City Council Chambers, unless stated otherwise.

New mixed-use tower proposed near Peel Memorial

  • Cumberland Developments, seemingly owned by well-known Brampton developer John Cuttrozola, is proposing a new 21-storey mixed-use condo tower, as well as the conversion of an existing 5-storey office building to apartments, at 145-149 Queen Street East (at Lynch)
  • The 5-storey office-to-residential conversion will house 42 rental units (15 one-bedroom and 27 two-bedroom) and 911 square metres of commercial space
  • New 21-storey residential condo tower with 140 units (64 one-bedroom, 76 two-bedroom) and 143 square metres of ground floor commercial space
  • 288 parking units
  • Report on page 5

Third time is the charm for Dominion Skate residential towers

  • City staff are recommending the approval of this development
  • Proposal calls for a 27-storey (phase 1) and 25-storey (phase 2) mixed-use development at 45 Railroad Street; towers share a podium
  • Applicant will be providing space for a daycare to operate out of the building
  • 387 residential units, between 1-3 bedrooms
  • 504 parking units, two levels underground and three levels above ground hidden by the podium
  • Denison Avenue will be extended along the south side of the property
  • Along Denison, attached to the podium, will be 7 two-storey, two-bedroom units with street access
  • Current Dominion Skate facade will be incorporated
  • Report on page 78

Heart Lake Troubles…Again

  • City staff are recommending that council reject a proposal to build 124 townhouse units at Conestoga and Sandalwood Parkway
  • This issue has been in and out of Brampton City Hall since 2007
  • Staff are recommending a rejection due to the “town centre” zoning, which calls for a more dense, mixed-use style development
  • Other reasons for rejection are: not enough pedestrian connections, new in-out road too close to existing intersection, driveways too close to intersection, units are too skinny
  • Report on page 180
