Every week, Bramptonist will be rounding up the interesting items on upcoming city council and committee meetings, so you don’t have to bore yourselves with tedious PDFs.

Council Workshop – Regional Governance Task Force

May 12, 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Alderlea

Issue in Brief

  • Preparatory meeting for the June Region of Peel meeting on regional governance
  • Spoke with 23/24 regional councillors, plus 3 CAOs
  • Items include whether to change the process on electing regional chair, as well as distribution of regional positions
  • Most regional councilors and the three mayors would prefer election of regional chair by members; minority would prefer direct election by public
  • Most members see value in Region of Peel, while only a minority would dissolve the region either in three cities or amalgamate into a City of Peel
  • Most members would prefer to see the regional council stay the same size as the population increase
  • Strong approval of representation by population on council, but Caledon would have concerns (new representation would see Mississauga continue to have similar numbers, Brampton having more, and Caledon having significantly less)

Agenda available here.
