We’re back for another busy week of committee meetings.

As always, Bramptonist will be rounding up the interesting items on upcoming city council and committee meetings, so you don’t have to bore yourselves with tedious PDFs.

All meetings are open to the public (aside from closed items), and are generally held in the City Council Chambers, unless stated otherwise.


Committee of Adjustment

Issues in Brief

  • 27 Rosegarden Drive wants to build an oversized cabana and a doghouse in the front yard
  • 50 and 54 Leadership Drive want to pave over their entire front lawns to expand their driveways
  • Region of Peel wants 3458 Queen Street East to be designated for youth shelter uses
  • 10250 Kennedy Road wants to add 11 independent living suites through a two-story addition
  • 1061 Queen Street West is still trying establish a temporary place of worship

Brampton Heritage Board

Heritage Impact Assessment

  • 11690 Chinguacousy Road (page 13)
    • Taylor-Monkman Farmhouse
    • Recommendation city pursue designation
    • Approval of surrounding subdivision dependent on Heritage Building Protection/Conservation plan, as well as funding for restoration
    • Stone from outbuildings could be reused for park amenities

Designated Heritage Property Incentive Grant Application

  • 7772 Churchville Road (page 81)
    • Application to install new wood sidings
  • 118 Royal West Drive (page 105)
    • Application to replace bricks, install ice/snow guards, install new copper eavestroughs and downspouts

Heritage Permit Application

  • 7746 Churchville Road (page 135)
    • Application for exterior alterations to the windows and doors on the east and south façades, and the removal of a chimney
    • None of these can be seen from public view
  • 160 Salvation Road (page 157)
    • Contains former Mount Pleasant Church
    • New sign needed for new occupants (a mosque)

Issues in Brief

  • The Brampton Heritage Board has been trying to designate the Heritage Theatre since March (page 178)

Community and Public Services Committee

November 16, 2016, 9:30 a.m.

Lighthouse Program

  • Brampton Emergency Management Office partnering with faith-based (FBO) and community organizations
  • Program to provide support to vulnerable people
  • 9 FBOs participating, 11 considering, 16 interested but not eligible due to location
  • All wards will have at least 1 organization
  • Other GTA municipalities are interested in Brampton’s program
  • No real costs to the program, due to mostly volunteer effort and existing emergency office resources
  • Start next year

Affordable Transportation Pilot Program

  • Region of Peel would like to partner with Brampton to provide an affordable transit program, similar to Mississauga
  • $400,000 would be allocated from city budget, target for 2,500 participants
  • Region would provide 50 per cent fare subsidy
  • City staff would like to monitor Mississauga’s program and then possibly implement it in 2018

Issues in Brief

  • A presentation from Henry Verschuren, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 1, on lifetime transit passes to veterans possibly being opened up to all veterans, not just those who were Canadian participants during WWII and the Korean War (page 6)
  • Brampton is getting a Jazz on the Square Festival in June 2017 (page 21)

Active Transportation Masterplan

  • City is preparing new Active Transportation Masterplan, to identify city walk, cycling, etc network
  • Masterplan will identify key transportation corridors
  • Encourage walking and cycling
