Council Showdown: November 28 – December 1, 2016

772

Sorry, we missed a week.

It’s budget week in Brampton! You can read our summary of the proposed 2017 budget here.

As always, Bramptonist will be rounding up the interesting items on upcoming city council and committee meetings, so you don’t have to bore yourselves with tedious PDFs.

All meetings are open to the public (aside from closed items), and are generally held in the City Council Chambers, unless stated otherwise.

*Do you like our weekly council coverage? Consider pitching into our Patreon fund, so we can have coffee while trudging through hundreds of pages of council report.

The Issue

It’s budget season at city hall. You can read our coverage of the budget plan here.

User Fees and Transit Fares

  • A small rise or decrease in user fees on parks, rec, fire/emergency services depending on the program (list starts on page 40)
  • Adult Presto fares for Brampton Transit will rise by five cents on March 6, 2017 (page 33)
    • Adult week passes increase from $32 to $32.50
    • Adult month passes increase from $120 to $122
    • Brampton Transit will align the current Student category to harmonize with the GTA’s Youth category in the Presto system
      • The age range is the same between the two categories (13-19), however, Brampton currently requires high school enrolment to qualify, whereas the GTA Presto category does not
      • When the shift comes into effect, all Brampton youth between 13-19 will count as a “Youth”, regardless of high school enrolment or graduation, and/or post-secondary enrolment
    • Cemetery user fee increase in line with inflation (page 106)

If you want to delegate to council on Monday night, fill out this delegation form and send it to the city clerk as soon as possible.
