Cristina Tortina’s Shop is an adorable little cake shop located at 16 Ray Lawson Drive in South Brampton.
The cake shop slings a lineup of delicious speciality cakes and deliciously crafted cupcakes baked from scratch every morning. On occasion, they also have other baked goods.
Cupcakes aren’t just the standard chocolate and vanilla. Flavours include the Caramello (dulce de leche cupcake topped with a dulce de leche buttercream and caramel drizzle), a cookie dough cupcake, (a chocolate cupcake stuffed with cookie dough and topped with a chocolate chip cookie) and quite a few others.
Cupcakes are made in small batches every day to maintain freshness, and they’ve been known to sell out before the end of the day, especially on weekends. Customers can custom order batches as a surer bet.
Cristina Tortina’s also does speciality cakes for birthdays, weddings and other occasions, made to order of course.
There’s seating — a comfy padded window seat and a couple of bistro tables to sit and enjoy a cupcake or treat.
Sounds like your typical cupcake shop right? Not so. Cristina Tortina’s is breaking down barriers and smashing stigmas by employing people with what they call ‘exceptionalities’
People with Down Syndrome, Autism and other exceptionalities are members of Cristina Tortina’s roster of staff as assistant bakers, inventory clerks, cashiers and customer service reps.
They run support groups for people with exceptionalities every month and regularly run workshops for school-age children to help combat misconceptions about people with exceptionalities.
