Cyclist killed in collision in north Brampton

A cyclist was struck by a car at the intersection of Dixie Road and Mayfield Road. The police reported the incident at 7:48 a.m.

The man, 52, was transported to a local hospital, but has since died.

The man was cycling north was he was hit. Police initially reported the incident as involving a pedestrian.

It is unknown where the man was cycling to.

Caledon is popular for road cycling due to its quiet and bike-friendly roads, and many cyclists choose Dixie as a route to get to the countryside.

Nearby there are several businesses and workplaces that are currently inaccessible by transit. People in the area also regularly walk on the side of roads, due to the lack of sidewalks on Dixie and other area street.

Police reported that road conditions are poor in the area, due to blowing snow. The intersection has been closed and has not reopened at this time.
