January 12, 2024 – A heart-pounding drama unfolded near Mayfield Road and Creditview Road in Brampton on January 6, 2024, as an unsuspecting victim faced down the barrel of a gun in a shocking armed carjacking. The swift response from the Provincial Carjacking Joint Task Force (PCJTF) and Peel Regional Police turned this terrifying episode into a tale of justice.
The victim, after parking in a residential driveway, was confronted by armed suspects who forced him back into his home at gunpoint. The assailants demanded keys and fled in the victim’s car. The victim sustained minor injuries but declined medical attention.
Thanks to the swift efforts of the PCJTF and Peel Regional Police, two suspects were nabbed shortly after the crime, while two more were found in a nearby residence. The Peel Regional Police Tactical Unit assisted in the arrests. During the capture, one suspect was found with a loaded mini Draco AK47, which was seized by the police. The victim’s vehicle was successfully recovered.
Charges have been laid against Elijah Kerridge-Lall, 21, from Whitby, Jaden Jones, 21, from Brampton, Romello Buchanan, 23, from Brampton, and Jaiden Waite, 22, from Brampton. The charges include robbery with a firearm, wearing a disguise with intent, possession of stolen property, and various firearm-related offenses.
All four suspects faced bail hearings at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on January 8, 2024.
The incident highlights the increasing violence related to auto crimes in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). To counter this trend, local police services have joined forces, forming the PCJTF. Co-led by the Toronto Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police, the task force involves collaboration with various police services from across the GTA and external agencies, including the Criminal Intelligence Service of Ontario.
The PCJTF’s goal is to disrupt networks responsible for violent auto thefts and enhance enforcement efforts against criminal organizations involved in such activities.
