The first death of a healthcare worker in Ontario from COVID-19 was just reported today by William Osler Health System for its Brampton Civic Hospital.

The 58-year-old man was reportedly a longtime worker in the hospital’s environmental services department, which handles things such as cleaning and sanitation to protect against infectious disease.

He passed away in the hospital’s intensive care unit.

As of this writing on April 9, 2020, details are unclear on how the person caught the virus.

The hospital said in a statement, “Our entire organization is devastated by this news, and our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time.”
