Habitat for Humanity GTA Recruiting Families for Affordable Housing in Brampton

December 1, 2023 – Habitat for Humanity Greater Toronto Area (Habitat GTA) is currently seeking families for three new housing projects in Brampton, as part of their ongoing mission to provide affordable homeownership opportunities to working, lower-income families.

Brampton’s Newest Housing Opportunities

58-62 Sky Harbour Drive

Situated at the intersection of Mississauga Road and Olivia Marie Road, the Olivia Marie Gardens is a master-planned community offering proximity to highways 407 and 401, easy access to transit, and convenient shopping. The project, delivered in part with federal funding for first-time homeowner Black families, consists of 2-bedroom homes with immediate occupancy.

30 Lagerfeld Drive

Located just east of Creditview Road on Bovaird Drive, this brand-new condo townhouse is adjacent to the Mount Pleasant GO Station. The Village, Civic Square, and various local amenities are within a 5-minute walk. The 2-bedroom, 3-bathroom homes with an expected occupancy date in February 2024 are ideal for families with children.

25 William Street

A classic Habitat build in downtown Brampton, 25 William St. comprises twelve four-storey stacked townhomes situated between Main and Queen Street. Some units have been delivered with federal funding for first-time homeowner Black families. The 3- or 4-bedroom homes are expected to be ready for occupancy in Winter 2024.

Minimum Requirements for Applicants

Prospective applicants must be the parent or legal guardian of at least one child aged 16 or under at the time of application for most units. All household members moving into Habitat homes must be Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents. At least one applicant or co-applicant(s) must be employed full-time or full-time-equivalent, with at least 3 years of employment history in Canada. Additionally, applicants must be first-time homebuyers currently living in rental housing, unable to afford a home through conventional means.

Making Homeownership Affordable

Habitat GTA’s homeownership program makes homes affordable by requiring no down payment and utilizing a two-mortgage model. Families enter into a shared equity agreement, allowing them to build wealth as they make affordable monthly housing payments.

How to Start the Application Process

Interested families are encouraged to complete the Eligibility Questionnaire, providing full and honest information. Misinformation or dishonesty may result in automatic disqualification, with a one-year waiting period to reapply.

A Legacy of Building Homes, Transforming Lives

Founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller, Habitat for Humanity has grown into a global movement with a vision of a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live. In 2014, Habitat for Humanity GTA was established through the amalgamation of three separate affiliates and has since been independently governed as a non-profit corporation with an affiliate agreement with Habitat for Humanity Canada.

The ReStores

In support of their homebuilding initiatives, Habitat GTA operates 12 Habitat ReStore locations across the Greater Toronto Area. These stores collect donations and sell new and used home furnishings, appliances, and renovation materials at discounted prices, generating revenue to fund home construction costs.

Project Builder: The Daniels Corporation

The Daniels Corporation, a prominent builder and developer, is leading the construction of two out of three new housing projects in Brampton for Habitat for Humanity GTA. With over 39 years of experience, Daniels has built 39,000 award-winning homes in the Greater Toronto Area, emphasizing design innovation and social impact. Last year, Habitat for Humanity GTA awarded Daniels the inaugural ‘Developer for Humanity Lifetime Achievement Award,’ recognizing their two-decade-long partnership in providing affordable housing. This accolade highlights Daniels’ significant contributions, including substantial land donations, below-market-cost homes, and valuable guidance, contributing to the success of Habitat GTA. Beyond their collaboration with Habitat GTA, Daniels actively supports various initiatives for inclusive housing, showcasing their commitment to community welfare.

Habitat for Humanity GTA continues to make strides in providing affordable housing solutions and invites families in Brampton to take the first step towards homeownership.
