Haviah Mighty will be performing at the Rose Theatre in Brampton downtown this November. The Brampton-based rapper, singer, producer and DJ has opened for acclaimed artists like Nelly, Desiigner, Snoop Dog, Sheck Wells, and A Tribe Called Red.
Mighty made history last month by becoming the first black woman and first hip hop artist to win the Polaris Music Prize. She also holds two Allan Slaight JUNO Master Class Awards, for 2018 and 2019.
Standing at a mere 5’ 1”, the artist commands the stage with her furious deliveries known for their complex flows, and for the in-your-face candidness with which she addresses real life and social issues.
Mighty praises Brampton during an interview with CBC, saying that she found it multi-cultural and accepting when she moved here from Toronto at a young age. And had this to say to aspiring artists, “You can’t give up just because you don’t see the rewards right away.”
Haviah Mighty’s performance is on Saturday, November 30 at 8 p.m. at the Rose Theatre (1 Theatre Lane). For more details head over to the Facebook event page, and if you’re ready for tickets, get them here.
