For many, nothing says winter like outdoor ice skating at beautiful Gage Park. This outdoor community ice trail is a picturesque, beautifully lit circuit in the heart of downtown, and admission is free.

Gage Park, at Main Street South and Wellington Street East, is scheduled to open for skating on December 1, weather permitting. The city aims to have all of its outdoor ice rinks and ice trails open on that date, in fact, by which time there should be more consistent temperatures for maintaining the ice.

Skate rentals and a food trailer are available on site from Thursday to Sunday. This means you can rent skates and helmets if you don’t have your own, so all you need to do is dress warm and show up. Large groups should call ahead though: 905-874-2820.

The ice circuit is open from Monday to Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with extended hours from December 21 to January 5, from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Other outdoor ice rinks and ice trails are Gore Meadows Covered Ice Rink, Chinguacousy Park Ice Trail, and Mount Pleasant Ice Rink.
