Federal New Democratic Party Leader and former Brampton MPP Jagmeet Singh just got engaged.
The former MPP of Bramalea-Malton-Gore, one of Brampton’s old provincial ridings, popped the question to Brampton-based designer and entrepreneur Gurkiran Kaur Sidhu.
Singh has always been tight-lipped about his private life, but on Tuesday he pulled back the curtain and popped the question to Sidhu in front of family, friends and press at the vegetarian restaurant where the couple had their first date.
Rumors started to swirl in December after the couple posted what appeared to be engagement photos on Instagram, but Singh declined to comment on his relationship status.

But this time, with friends and family looking on, Singh pulled out the ring, got down on one knee and proposed, and Sidhu accepted.
“I’m super excited to take this step forward, to have a life and future together with my partner,” Singh told reporters who were on hand during the event as well.

While the pair have known each other for quite some time, Singh didn’t divulge any information about how they first met, much to everyone’s disappointment.
Sidhu is a Brampton-based designer and co-founder of Jangiiro, a contemporary Punjabi clothing line.
