Today Krispy Kreme celebrates their 79th Birthday, and with it, plans expand into Canada once again.
Krispy Kreme is no stranger to the Canadian Market, they previously attempted a forray into the true North without any lasting success.
The company first came to Canada in 2001 and excited customers greeted them with open arms. People waited in long lineups just to get a taste of their hot, glazed melt in your mouth donuts.
The excitement didn’t last long, and by 2005 many Krispy Kreme stores closed, forcing the company to file for bankruptcy protection.
Now Krispy Kreme has new owners who are planning to venture into Canada again, with plans to open 50 new locations across Ontario and Quebec in the next five years. Once they’ve tested the waters in the two provinces, they plan to expand across Canada.
The franchise will have a new look too. Instead of just their factory-style locations — one of which is currently still open in Mississauga — the company will also opt for cafes with speciality drinks and other food, giving customers a fuller experience.
Currently you can pull up to any Krispy Kreme outlet and grab a dozen freshly baked donuts. You won’t be able to get a donut fresh out of the oven at their new cafes, but donuts will be delivered from factory locations twice a day. Customers will also have the option to have their donuts reheated in a special oven.
Moving forward Krispy Kreme plans to run a combination of factory outlet stores and small cafes, reports CBC.
The location of the 50 new stores hasn’t been revealed yet, but hopefully at least one comes to Brampton.
