A lot of rec centres in the city’s more established neighbourhoods, like Bramalea and Heart Lake, have been in need of some TLC and Loafer’s Lake is finally getting its turn.

Starting May 1 Loafers Lake (Kennedy Road and Sandalwood Parkway) will be closed for renovations and upgrades.

The rec centre is getting new fitness change rooms, new family change rooms and a sensory room. The facility’s lobby, pool and parking lot are getting refurbished.

The building is also getting some upgrades to become more accessible, and the electrical and HVAC systems will be modernized.

The city has put in measures to accommodate residents who use the facility for programs: if you’re an existing Loafer’s Lake neighbourhood fitness member, you can use your membership at any of the city’s fitness facilities.

Squash players and anyone accessing Inclusion and Integration programs will be relocated to Jim Archdekin Recreation Centre, located at 292 Conestoga Drive (Kennedy Road and Bovaird Drive).

Starting March 18 until April 30 programs at Loafer’s Lake will operate on a modified schedule.

Loafer’s Lake is expected to be closed until Fall 2020 and you can check out the city’s website for more information.
