The twinkle lights are up, and the weather has been chilly, but not chilly enough for Brampton’s outdoor skating rinks and trails to open.

Usually by the second week of December Brampton’s outdoor trails are open, but the mild weather this week has prevented them from officially opening for the season.

All of the rinks have been prepped by the city’s Parks and Recreation department, but in order to officially open the weather needs to consistently remain below zero degrees Celsius for a week.

Temperatures in Brampton are expected to hover around the freezing mark and stay below zero for the majority of days in the coming week which may make opening the rinks possible.

Brampton has three outdoor trails — Gage Park, Chinguacousy Park, and Mount Pleasant Square. The brand new covered outdoor rink at Gore Meadows will also be thrown into the mix this winter.

The city offers daily updates on the status or rinks on their page here.
