The Ontario NDP is still in the process of filling its Brampton roster and the latest candidate to join the ranks is Kevin Yarde.
Yarde is a social justice advocate and weather expert and will represent the party in the Brampton North riding.
Yarde is involved with several causes aside from his work on The Weather Network, including the National Association of Black Journalists and Covenant House, an organization that helps at-risk youth and homeless youth.
A community member with deep Brampton roots, Yarde says he wants to bring change to the community.
“Brampton North is a beautiful place with driven, dedicated people. But the fact is that a lot of people in our neighbourhoods are feeling squeezed. They’re working hard, but they’re not seeing the benefit because our province has become less affordable and less livable than ever before,” says Yarde.
He goes on to say, “People in Brampton North and across Ontario deserve better. They deserve better than community hospitals like Brampton Civic Hospital being cut to the bone and forced to treat 4,000 patients in the hallway in a single year. They deserve better than auto insurance companies that will gouge them with higher fees based on the community they live in.”
