As part of the 2019 budget, the Ontario government has announced plans to launch a redesigned driver license cards and license plates.
The new design for driver license cards will change the colours from blue and green to blue and white. Transportation Minister Jeff Yurek said in the announcement that the license cards were last updated 12 years ago and that the new cards will help combat fraud and prevent identity theft.
The announcement also promised that the new blue license plates will be available starting February 2020. Minster of Finance Vic Fedeli said the new design will prevent peeling and flaking, which has been a problem with the current plates.
“We are renewing the licence plate and driver’s licence because it represents how we are renewing our entire approach to government,” said MPP Fedeli.
Both the license carts and the plates will feature the updated trillium logo.
