Habitat For Humanity’s Women Build has kicked off and over 400 women will pitch in to help build affordable housing in Brampton.

The event is part of a global movement that brings women together with a single goal in mind: to help families in need of a decent place to call home.

Since 2009, Habitat for Humanity GTA Women Build events have brought together over 5,000 women to raise more than $4.5 million, and help build 85 homes. This year’s goal is to rally 500 women and fundraise $275,000, and it’s all happening at Brampton’s new Habitat for Humanity site on McLaughlin Rd.

Habitat says the event is all about empowering women, promoting solidarity and giving them opportunities to learn. “For 11 years, National Women Build Week has brought together thousands of strong women of all construction experience levels to build or repair homes with hardworking, empowered Habitat homeowners to address this critical issue,” says Lisa Marie Nickerson, associate director, Habitat for Humanity International. “We have seen firsthand the strength and independence that home ownership can provide for families.”

Benefit Cosmetics is also participating in the fundraising efforts. All proceeds from brow wax services booked at Benefit Brow Bars inside Sephora and Benefit boutiques will go towards the Women Build fundraising efforts.
The Women Build event takes place May 9 to 12 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 59 McLaughlin Road North in Brampton. Participants are invited to pick one day to participate and can register by clicking here.
