December 14, 2023 – In the spirit of safer streets during the festive season, Peel Regional Police has initiated its annual Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) campaign.
This ongoing commitment aims to educate the public about the perils of impaired driving. While R.I.D.E. checks happen throughout the year, the Holiday Season R.I.D.E. campaign features intensified enforcement with extra officers deployed from all police divisions and Road Safety Services.
Taking a proactive stance on road safety, the police have already checked over 5,000 vehicles, and the program will continue its vigilance until early January. This collaboration includes partnering with MADD Canada as part of a comprehensive strategy against impaired driving.
In a press release, the Peel Police remind us all that “Road safety is a shared responsibility.” If you’ve had drinks or taken drugs, leave the driving to someone sober. Plan ahead by arranging a designated driver, securing an alternative place to stay, or using public transportation.
Peel Regional Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah emphasized the importance of community involvement, stating, “If you suspect someone is driving impaired, call 911. Together, we can Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere!”
Stay safe this holiday season by being responsible on the roads and supporting efforts to make our community safer for everyone.
