Distracted driving has been subject to tougher crackdowns since new legislation that come into effect last month, and it’s about to get even more attention–at least for a little while.
In a week-long blitz starting April 23, Peel Regional Police will double down to catch culprits of distracted driving in Brampton and Mississauga.
Peel Police will keep an extra keen eye out for anyone breaking the rules and will take a zero-tolerance approach to any infractions.

The crackdown has already been in effect. Offenders convicted of distracted driving now automatically receive a license suspension and are subject to a fine based on past offenses. First-time offenders can expect a 3-day suspension and a $1,000 fine, second offenses receive a 7-day suspension and a $2,000 fine and if you’re bold enough to be caught doing it a third time you’ll be slapped with a 30-day license suspension, a $3,000 fine and six demerit points.
Peel Police’s week-long crackdown is part of Distracted Driving Awareness Month and will last until April 30.
