Comedian Russell Peters is getting some flack after controversial remarks he made while co-hosting the Junos on Sunday night.
Peters hosted the awards alongside musician Bryan Adams and it all came to a head when it came time to introduce Coleman Hell accompanied by Heritage Minister Melanie Joly.
“With him is the minister of heritage, Melanie Joly,” Adams said.
“I don’t know why, but she’s hot, so who cares?” Peters replied.
Peters also commented on the number of young women in the audience, remarking that it was a “felony waiting to happen.”
While Peters is known for making all sorts of jokes, critics are deeming the remarks sexist and unnecessary.
Speaking to the media outside the House of Commons on Monday, Joly said the remarks were inappropriate and that this type of humor has no place at the Junos.
Peters has not yet addressed the issue publicly.
