After months of struggling, Sears Canada is throwing in the towel and has announced the shut down of all of its stores, including the last remaining location in Brampton.

The chain has been working since June 22 to turn things around. They closed 59 stores earlier this year and recently announced the closure of 11 more, but maintained that they were still working to stay open. Brampton’s sole store even underwent a major renovation recently.

Now, after failed attempts to secure a buyer, 12,000 employees will be let go, including 800 at the chain’s head office as they prepare to close permanently.

All of Sears Canada’s locations, including Brampton’s sole location at Bramalea City Centre, will begin liquidation sales later this month.
