Internationally bestselling author Shilpi Somaya Gowda will be the guest for Writers at the Rose in Brampton on Tuesday, October 15.

Gowda comes to Brampton to discuss her newest novel The Shape of Family. Guests will have the chance to participate in an interactive Q & A with the author, purchase her works and have them signed.

Gowda’s previous novel Secret Daughter got the author the #1 spot on the New York Times #1 International Bestseller list. Her book, The Golden Son also became an international bestseller with over one million copies sold worldwide. Both novels are deep looks at family and culture.

Gowda has a fascination for “dual identity” and living in “dual worlds,” as she told the CBC about growing up in Canada with frequent visits to India. It inspired her to weave stories that bridge cultures for anyone who can relate to feeling like a “square peg in a round hole”.

The event is on Tuesday, October 15, from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Rose (1 Theatre Lane). Guests pay what they decide for admission and you can book tickets here.

Writers at the Rose is part of the Festival of Literary Diversity (FOLD) line-up of events. Previous writers at the Rose include hockey father Brampton-born Karl Subban and Canadian literary heavyweight Dionne Brand. On Nov. 1, Humble the Poet will be Writer at the Rose.
