Someone is Stealing Bronze Memorial Plaques From Around Brampton

In the last week of April someone stole a total of 33 bronze memorial plaques from various locations across Brampton.

Chinguacousy Park and Kiwanis Park have been among the targeted locations. The plaques have a value of about $10,500.

Police speculate that the plaques are being sold to a metal recycler for money.
Due to the high price of scrap metal, memorials, cemeteries, and other such locations are often targeted. In fact, it has happened before in Brampton.
Back in 2013 a man was arrested after thefts from local churches, a historical landmark in the city, and a cemetery.
At this time Peel Police continue to investigate and the City of Brampton is making plans to replace the memorials.
Members of the public with information should call Peel Police, 21 Division detectives, at 905-453-2121, ext. 2133, or report it to Peel Crime Stoppers anonymously by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
