Located in the heart of the city, nestled alongside Gage Park, Sul Irmaos is the brainchild of two brothers who are serving up food you’ll want to write home about. The flavours are a mix of Portuguese Southern Fusion using an array of deliciously smoked meats and comfort food classics that will make your taste buds oh so happy.
Sul Irmaos was featured on The Food Network’s You Gotta Eat Here in 2014 and this gem is worth every bit of hype it’s gotten. We have no qualms labeling it one of the best eats in Brampton taking into consideration it’s delicious, innovative offerings.
We started our feast with the honey BBQ and dry rub smoked wings, which were some of the best we’ve ever had. They fell off the bone and were sauced to perfection. The dry rub was particularly good, it was packed with flavour. We also enjoyed a selection of comfort food classics including mac and cheese, a creamy slaw and smoked bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers stuffed with cream cheese and chorizo — they call then ATBs. They come with a smoked sweet chili aioli that they should probably bottle and sell. It’s THAT good.Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better than the awesome wings and the ATBs, our Po Boys arriced, and they were the absolute star of the evening. You won’t be able to find Po Boys this good within Peel region. Here’s what we had:
Hot Smoked Salmon
Hot smoked salmon, red onion slaw, caper aioli, and fried sweet pickles.
Butter Chicken
Slow cooked butter chicken, tangy house made yogurt, and onion baji.
Turkey & Waffles
Fried turkey medallions and gravy, sweet thai dipped waffles topped with calamari, and red peppers.
Pulled Pork & Beanasauras
Southern slow smoked pulled pork, kettle cooked baked beans, creamy slaw, and fried mac and cheese bites.
None of them disappointed. The flavours were all well constructed and the combination of ingredients were nothing short of ingenious. Though it was tough to pick the best, the crowd favourites of the evening were the turkey and waffles po boy and the pulled pork beanasauras. If you’re looking for something big to sink your teeth into, we recommend the Turkey & Waffles or Beanasauras. The Smoked Salmon and Butter Chicken are better suited for lunchtime and are a little easier to bite into.
To round it all off we had fresh cookie dough batter waffles with chocolate ganache and chantilly cream; they call it The Cookie Monster. Our first thoughts were, cookie dough as waffle batter? Genius! Followed by, can we eat this everyday for the rest of our lives?! In short, it was delicious.
Sul Irmaos is officially on the list of go-to restaurants. It’s perfect for lunch, dinner, a late night eat after drinks — whatever! You just cant find masterpieces those po boys anywhere else in Brampton.
