On Wednesday, June 19 Brampton City Council forwarded a motion to postpone the new permit requirements for driveway widening until later this year. This decision was voted into effect based on the feedback and suggestions that council received from Brampton residents.

Plans for the new permit requirements were originally going to go into effect on July 2 but have now been pushed back to November 22. City staff will be going over and reviewing the permit program and report back to the Planning and Development Committee in early autumn along with any changes that will need to be made.

As of now, any Brampton residents who plan on widening their driveway can apply for a city permit if they want to cut the municipal curb. However, residents are reminded that there are maximum permitted widths for driveways in the city, based on the width of their property. In order to ensure proper drainage on a property, there must be 0.6 metres (2 feet) of permeable landscaping (e.g. grass, garden, flowerbed) between the driveway and the side lot line.
