The Ontario Government Is Freezing Driver’s License Fees

Ontario drivers can count on a bit of a break this fall because Ford’s PC government has decided to stop fee increases which had been slated to kick in September 1 for driver’s licenses and related knowledge and road tests.

The move will keep the cost of a new driver’s license or five-year renewal at $90 instead of raising it to $97. Exit road tests for G1 and M1 will stay at $52.50 instead of including the expected $2 increase. Written tests for licenses will remain at $23.25 instead of the anticipated increase to $24.

Potential transport truck drivers can also expect a break: road tests for A, B, C, D, E and F class licenses were supposed to rise to $100.25 but will remain at $96.75.

The Ford government says this is one of the ways they are putting money back in the pockets of regular Ontarians. Meanwhile, New Democrat Leader Andrea Horwath warns Ford has also outlined $6 billion in unspecified spending cuts, which will lead to a reduction in public services.

Ford has also promised a 10 cents per liter cut in gas prices, but no details have been provided on when Ontarians can expect to see a change at the pump.
