The Bramptonist launched a poll on February 11, 2022, asking their readers to vote for their favorite Brampton community All-star with a Top 10 list.
Over 30,000 people voted for their favorite Brampton community members.
Among the Top 10 people who made the list, there were iconic and influential figures who represent the community fabric of our beloved City of Brampton.
The field consisted of:
- Roberta Battaglia – Singer
- Patrick Brown – Mayor of Brampton
- Rupi Kaur – Artist
- A. J. Lawson – Athlete (Basketball)
- Dr. Lawrence Loh – Medical Officer of Health (Peel)
- Rick Matharu – Chef/Restauranteur
- Kathy McDonald – School Board Trustee
- Robert Rutledge – Barber
- Rowena Santos – Brampton Councillor
- Prabmeet Sarkaria – MPP Brampton South
As a result of the votes, here are the top three most favorited community members in Brampton:
Robert Rutledge is the owner of Al’s Barbershop, which is located at 247 Queen St West. Robert continues the hair cutting tradition that began with Al Widdis in 1946, when he first opened the door of Al’s Barbershop to customers. Robrt is also affectionately known as “Red Rooster” for his red hair, and even offers veterans free haircuts in November.
Rowena Santos is the Brampton Regional Councillor for Wards 1 & 5. Rowena is the first Filipino elected to the Brampton council. Her goal is to change the way politics are conducted in Brampton. A passionate member of the community, she supports residents, local organizations, small businesses, and artists.
Prabmeet Sarkaria is a lawyer and MPP with the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party serving the Brampton South community. His hard work at the provincial level was recognized, where he was promoted to President of Ontario’s Treasury Board in June of 2021. Previously Prabmeet served as the Associate Minister of Small Business and Red Tape Reduction from 2019 to 2021.
