After a few years of construction, the gorgeous outdoor covered rink at Gore Meadows Rec Centre low-key opened last month. Now the rink is having its official opening.

The new sprawling new rink is part of Phase Two of the Gore Meadows Community Centre and Library development project and it took a few years to come to fruition.

The rink is outdoors, but its gorgeous timber and steel dome roof keep you covered from the elements — like the crazy cold and snow that have been sweeping through the area recently.

The rink is pay-per-use but this Sunday it’s free to skate during the grand opening. The festivities kick off at 1 p.m. and last until 4 p.m.

The usual cost to skate is $2.75 for adults up to 54 years old, $2 for kids under 13 and free for seniors. The rink has a specific drop drop-in schedule for skate times open to the public, so you’ll want to check that out if you’re visiting.

The rink doesn’t offer skate rentals so you’ll want to bring your own, though there are potential plans to start offering them in the future.
