NBD, but Toronto was recently ranked the best large airport in North America, and if you’ve traveled through Chicago’s O’Hare or Atlanta’s international airport, you might agree.

Montreal-based non-profit Airports Council International (ACI) awarded the honour to Toronto Pearson for 2017. The organization has recognized outstanding airports around the world since 2006 with Airport Service Quality Awards.

To determine who wins the awards ACI issues surveys to passengers measuring their satisfaction. The surveys evaluate performance in key areas including security, the check-in process, food and ease of navigation through the airport.

Over 600,000 survey responses were received and out of 340 airports Pearson was ranked the best in North America in the largest category, among airports that see over 40 million passengers per year.

Though not necessarily a preferred option for Bramptonians, Toronto’s Billy Bishop also received an award, sliding into a second place spot as North America’s best airports with over two million passengers per year.

“Together, the 49,000 people who work at Toronto Pearson – not only for the GTAA, but for the air carriers, the government agencies, the retail establishments, and more – have all helped to achieve this result,” said Howard Eng, President and CEO of Greater Toronto Airports Authority in a press release.

“We recognize that we have more work to do to stay ahead of other great North American airports and compete with other large international airports around the world.”
