Back in the summer UberEats ditched its flat-rate delivery fee of $4.99 in favour of a variable fee based on distance, and now it looks like prices are creeping up.
For the past couple of months, you may have noticed restaurants on UberEats within your delivery radius have different delivery rates based on how far away they are from your delivery address.
Originally under the new system delivery fees started at $3.00 and capped out at about $6.99. However, Uber has been quietly pushing up its delivery fees and restaurants in Brampton are now charging upwards of $8 to deliver food.
In most cases, fees have taken a 50 cent jump. This may not be a deal-breaker for some, but since other food delivery services have free delivery options consumers might take exception to the increasing delivery fees.
SkipTheDishes, for example, often has free delivery when diners spend between $20 to $25. It varies by restaurant.
But at this point, UberEats has no free delivery options. Brampton has a small crop of about 50-70 restaurants available on UberEats, SkipTheDishes and DoorDash, and most of those restaurants are on all three. This most recent increase has people turning away from Uber and towards other services.
Surge pricing also applies to UberEats so in super busy times, like weekends and holidays, you might even pay more for your deliveries.
